Why watch this film?
Father-Daughter duo Elliott and Ridley hit a unicorn with their car and bring it to the wilderness retreat of a mega-wealthy pharmaceutical CEO.
"Death of a Unicorn is an A24 film that blends social satire, monster movies, and family drama. The story follows the teenager Ridley (Jenna Ortega), who is dragged by her lawyer father (Paul Rudd) on a business trip with his bosses, the owners of a major pharmaceutical company. However, along the way, they run over a baby unicorn, which sets off a series of events that will challenge scientific knowledge and ethics, greed, and family bonds. The film’s premise is hilariously absurd on paper, but the final result takes itself too seriously, instead of embracing the more violent and outlandish aspects of its concept. It's not a bad film by any means, and both Will Poulter and Richard E. Grant deliver some very fun moments as a pair of unscrupulous privileged characters. It’s a good option if you’re looking for a monster movie with enough blood to accompany your popcorn and entertain, but it’s far from being the most interesting thing under the A24 banner."
