Why watch this film?
In the desert bordering Colombia and Venezuela, “pimpineros” risk their lives transporting illegal gasoline from one country to another. When Juan, a young fuel smuggler, is forced to work for a mysterious rival, his girlfriend Diana embarks on a perilous journey to uncover the secrets that shroud this no-man’s-land.
"Pimpinero: Blood and Oil is a neo-western selected at the Toronto Film Festival about a group of "pimpineros", fuel smugglers who cross the desert border between Colombia and Venezuela. The story follows Juan (the Mexican Alejandro Speitzer), the youngest of three brothers involved in this business, who is forced to work for a dangerous rival. Meanwhile, he dreams of escaping with his girlfriend (Laura Osma) to start a new life. With performances by Cuban actor Alberto Guerra and famous Colombian musician Juanes, the film touches on classic western themes: violence, betrayal, and freedom in lawless land. The script could be more refined in its pacing, but it remains a captivating story."
