Why watch this film?
Oscar® nominee June Squibb portrays Thelma Post, a feisty 93-year-old grandmother who gets conned by a phone scammer pretending to be her grandson (The White Lotus’ Fred Hechinger). Accompanied by an old friend (Richard Roundtree) and his motorized scooter, she sets out on a wild adventure to reclaim what was taken from her. Inspired by a real-life experience of director Josh Margolin’s own grandmother, Thelma puts a clever spin on movies like Mission: Impossible, shining the spotlight on an elderly grandmother as an unlikely action hero, with infectious humor throughout. Parker Posey, Clark Gregg, and Malcolm McDowell also star.
"Thelma could very well be the best action comedy of the year, which might sound like a stunning claim considering it stars nonagenarian June Squibb (Oscar-nominated for best movies of 2024)."
