Why watch this film?
As the American Civil War breaks out, a family of French colonists who have settled in Missouri, decide to go back to . Edmond, Madeleine, and their three daughters hire a mysterious mercenary, Victor, to help them cross the dangerous Western territories.
"The phrase “a female-led western”, which the movie was promoted with, is perhaps the most accurate description. If the western genre is one in which male characters and their perspectives predominate—in its classical form, from a colonial viewpoint—the great merit of 'Savage State' is to shift the focus of the narrative to female characters, whose experiences and relationships with the violence of the era are fundamentally different (with the added perspective of the French colonizers, not very explored in traditional westerns). The performances are satisfactory, with special mention for Alice Isaaz (‘Dulce veneno’, ‘El misterio del Sr. Pick’)."
